April is a recent graduate of Transylvania University, where she earned a B.A. in biology and a minor in psychology. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health. Her primary research interests involve the exploration of sociocultural, behavioral, and economic influences on the acceptance of biomedical interventions, such as vaccines. She has assisted in numerous projects involving Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine acceptance and is currently collaborating with health officials in the Philippines to develop a protocol for use in young Filipino women. She has also conducted pilot research on vaccine acceptance among parents of children with autism and is in the process of developing a larger version of the study. Through this research, she hopes to identify the effects of structural and attitudinal factors as well as their interplay in the acceptance of biomedical technology.
